Preventative dentistry
Here at Banbeath Dental Practice we believe prevention is better than cure and this is why we advise regular examinations.
The following preventative care is carried out daily:
Yes! Even if your baby doesn't have any teeth yet we recommend your child sees a dentist before their first birthday.
This can include bringing them along at your visit, which will establish the surgery as a familiar place to be.
When should I start brushing my child's teeth?
As soon as the first tooth begins to erupt.
The earlier you start the more likely your baby will comply with oral hygiene in the future. Use a smear of 1450ppm toothpaste for under 3s and a pea sized amount of 1450ppm toothpaste for over 3 years.
Why is Fluoride important?
Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that plays a huge role in preventing caries and remineralising teeth.
What is a fissure sealant?
Fissure sealants are preventative treatment that are recommended when first molars erupt.
They consist of a plastic seal that is placed into the pits and fissures (bump and grooves) of the molars to prevent food getting stuck and making brushing easier. Fissure sealants are pain free.
